Expanse Fencing: owner-run fencing from Heatherton

Updated 19 October 2026

Who we are

Expanse Fencing is the trading name of Expanse Builders Pty Ltd (ABN 33 642 257 467). It is owned and run by Pete Kendall from Heatherton in Melbourne's south east. There is no call centre and no franchise: the person who measures your fence is part of the business that builds it, and the same small team answers the phone afterwards.

We work across Bayside, Kingston, Glen Eira and south east Melbourne, most often in Heatherton, Cheltenham, Moorabbin, Highett, Mentone, Dingley Village, Bentleigh East, Brighton and Sandringham. We are a service-area business, so there is no shopfront to visit; we come to you.

Registration you can check

Our guide to choosing a fencing contractor explains how to run the same checks on anyone you are considering.

Why the name says Builders

Before focusing on fencing in 2026, Expanse Builders did home renovation and extension work in Bayside. The company, the registration and the people are the same; the work is now fences. Some older directory listings still show the renovation business, and we are updating them. If you find one that looks out of date, we would be grateful if you let us know.

How we build

• Timber paling is our core product, built on hardwood posts set in concrete as standard, because posts are where most paling fences fail first. Our posts guide explains why.
• We also build Colorbond, aluminium slat and aluminium picket fences, and gates.
• Every fence carries a 5-year structural warranty in writing.
• We build new fences and replace old ones in full. We do not take repair-only jobs.

How pricing works

Start with the free online instant estimate: draw your fence line on a satellite map and see a figure in about 2 minutes. Your written quote is confirmed at a free, no-obligation on-site measure (we need 24 hours' notice, and there is no deposit to book). We do not publish per-metre rates, because slope, access, removal and gates change every job; the estimate prices your actual boundary. On a shared boundary we can help with the neighbour side too: our free Fencing Notice generator fills in the notice under the Fences Act 1968 (Vic).

Reviews

We ask every customer for an honest Google review once the job is finished, good or bad. We never pay or offer anything for reviews, and we reply to every one.

The guides

Pete reviews every fencing guide on this site before it is published: costs, permits, dividing fences and how a good fence is built. Any price ranges in them are published market ranges, not our prices. Spotted something wrong or out of date? Email info@expanse.builders.
